What does the vertical line test actually test?
Whether any input has more than one output. If a vertical line crosses the curve twice, one x value maps to two y values, so it is not a function.
Why is the inverse a reflection in y = x?
Because finding an inverse swaps the roles of x and y. Swapping coordinates is exactly what reflecting across that line does to every point.
How do I find domain without graphing?
Look for what breaks. Denominators cannot be zero, even roots cannot take negatives, and logs need a positive argument. Everything else is allowed.
